| US doctor turns to Dawah( Islamic Preaching)- Such efforts have led to at least 600 Americans embracing Islam in 2009

JEDDAH: Going along the lines of Islamic scholars Ahmed Deedat and Zakir Naik is their faithful follower Dr. Sabeel Ahmed who has given up his medical profession to devote entirely to Dawa work in the United States.
“I am greatly influenced by Deedat and Naik, my mentors, and have been conducting Dawa work in the United States with great success,” Ahmed told Arab News in an interview on Wednesday. He is the director of GainPeace an outreach project of Islamic Circle of North America, which has chapters in major US and Canadian cities.
Currently here to perform Umrah, Ahmed, a radiologist, said the efforts of GainPeace had been paying dividends, as it was able to dispel misconceptions about Islam at various meetings and conferences. “Today, there are highway billboards and buses displaying Islamic messages in different parts of America under the GainPeace program, including Washington, New York and Chicago.”
Aside from placing Dawa booths at public places and undertaking a house-to-house campaign, GainPeace has been using the Internet, radio, television and the print media to spread the message of Islam. “Such efforts have led to at least 600 Americans embracing Islam in 2009,” said Ahmed who hails from the southern Indian city of Hyderabad. He did his schooling and pursued university studies in the United States. He is professionally a radiologist, which he practiced in Chicago for some years after completing his study in radiology — first two years on the Caribbean islands and the next two years in a US university. His wife is a pediatrician.
“Islam is often a misunderstood religion and so the display of simple messages provide an opportunity for the general public to take a fresh and positive look at Islam,” he said, adding that GainPeace has taken upon the responsibility of educating the American public about the teachings of Islam and dispel whatever misconceptions they have in their minds. “We have also been building bridges among the native and immigrant Americans through Islam as the religion of peace, tolerance and coexistence.”
Ahmed says thousands of calls are being received by GainPeace, which also has its dedicated website, requesting for copies of the Qur’an, interactions with Muslims to learn about the religion and its five pillars, and visit mosques to see how prayers are offered.
After a person accepts Islam, GainPeace follows-up by providing them a “welcome to Islam” package consisting of an English translation of Qur’an, a DVD on how to pray, a book on Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and other books on Islam. Secondly, a knowledgeable Muslim is appointed as a mentor to assist the new Muslim in the process of learning and practicing the religion. Thirdly, classes for new Muslims are conducted in various American cities. Internet classes are also being organized to assist new Muslims from around America and Canada.
“Our aim is to establish our own radio and TV stations, and peace centers in America and convey the message of Islam to all of 300 million Americans,” Ahmed said.

| 1,392 embrace Islam in Riyadh

RIYADH: As many as 1,392 expatriates having different nationalities have embraced Islam at Cooperative Dawa and Guidance Office in Riyadh's Suwaidi District, according to a report issued by the office on Friday.
Abdul Rahman Al-Ajlan, director of the office, said his organization had distributed 19,789 copies of the Qur'an, 59,250 copies of Islamic cassettes in Arabic and other languages and 15 million copies of booklets and pamphlets among the public.
“Last year we distributed iftar meals among 40,000 people during Ramadan,” Al-Ajlan said. “This year also we intend to distribute iftar meals among a large number of people, especially expatriates.” The office appoints learned scholars to give Islamic lectures during the holy month.

| 60 embrace Islam in Al-Ahsa
Saudi Gazette, Friday, 01 May 2009 - 06 Jumada Al-Awwal 1430 H
AL-AHSA – Sixty people of different nationalities embraced Islam here last month, the Saudi Press Agency reported.
Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Jughaiman, director of Islamic Da’wah Center in Al-Ahsa urged all Muslims to do their best in explaining Islam to non-Muslims.
Islamic booklets and cassettes are available at the center in more than 20 languages, he said.
Al-Jughaiman urged philanthropists to extend their support to the center and help it in spreading the message of Islam effectively. – SG

We speak different languages, and live thousands of kilometers from one another in the Philippines. Yet, those differences are not a hindrance for us to forge together a common faith in the “Kalima Laa ilaha Illlallah”. We are like other regular overseas contract workers employed in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. One is an electrical engineer while the next one is working in the technical office and the youngest in the group is a former junior college varsity player and now a software engineer. But for us, our presence in the Kingdom goes beyond working for money. Alhamdulillah, it is here in the Kingdom where we found answers to our spiritual questions. Inshallah, Allah Subhanahu wa Ta’ala gives us “taufik” and “hidayat” for us to overcome “fitna” and other trials that might cross the path of our faith in Islam.
Our lives as muslims are very much alive in the camp where we are accommodated. The deafening silence, red sands and piercing cold weather have been our constant companions here. Our lively discussion about “eman” to improve our understanding of our belief have are making us better muslims. Lately, our discussions have become more interesting as the unity of the muslim ummah is now challenged by the Gaza Siege, where human casualties have gone up to astronomic levels. In our free time, we watch Aljazeera news for latest updated on the Gaza Siege. The violent images are unbelievable. We could hardly believe that such outright disrespect for human lives persists to exist. Worst, never in any in modern history that children suffered more than those in Gaza, where even infants are slaughtered like animals, their bodies are riddled with mortal wounds and decapitated! A picture is worth a thousand words, but no amount of words could fill up the images and videos captured unpretentiously in Gaza.
By this time, the siege has taken a lull. Israeli President Olmert said they won the war. But such a claim was doubted after the Hamas militants were able to launch 5 missiles into the Israel territory a day after the ceasefire was declared. Thus, the war was nothing but a display or maybe a test of Israeli modern warfare at the expense of innocent lives. The streets of Gaza are filled with rubbles and surely underneath are thousands of lives waiting to get retrieved. The war has just ended but the human catastrophe is just beginning to unfold, and the ghost of holocaust are chasing the minds and emotions of not just the muslims, but others who still believe in the sanctity of human life. We are mere creators, no more than the trees and the skies. We have no rights registered in heaven to take away the lives of innocent people. History has taught us that wars only create tyrants and evil leaders, they never have become effective solutions to settle disputes.
We are looking at the Gaza Siege, not only as muslims, but as fathers as well. Our sons and daughters are in the age bracket of those children who died in Gaza. As the images flashed on TV of a father wailing to see all his three children lying lifeless, we cannot help but pause for even a second. We don’t know how to react if we lose a child, much more lose all our children whose tender bodies are mutilated beyond recognition.
